As the crow flies, it’s 862 miles from the dock in Alton, IL (origin) to the dock at Clearwater Beach, FL (destination.)
By road, it’s about 1051 miles (according to Google Earth.)
By boat, it’s roughly 1350 miles.
Friday night (July 31st) was a big “halfway moment.”
We are in Demopolis, Alabama. Not more than a spec in the middle of nowhere, really. But, since the Tann-Tom Waterway (ditch) is 450 miles long, and this place is 216 miles from open water, it the closest marina to “halfway” down the ditch.
We have also traveled 697 miles from Alton/St. Louis thus far. Considering that our overall trip is an estimated 1350 miles, this represents the halfway marina for our overall trip as well.
We planned to travel 90 miles yesterday, today, and Sunday/Monday as well (hoping to arrive in Gulf Shores, AL to meet our friends Mark & Laura and their kids on Monday night or Tuesday morning.)
So, gotta get going...
Venture OUT!
